Dream Crystal

for Greg

Criss-crossing the corners of my shifting over mind
Having straddled so many misspent rivers overlapping
coursing over the delta into the mosaic lands beyond
switching from skiffs to bicycles and various used cars

We covered many miles cutting swaths North and South
We visited ports from the west coast to the east
Fought in many wars both real and imaginary
Thunder left behind in our minds chasing us

In the wake of storm and lightning cracking gales
Sailing on a tempest blind over darkened reefs
Feeling our way forward eyes shut no sonar
Blindfolded into the fray onward carving the way

Shadow playen

Re-awakened to the memory of how we once slept
Lids of heavy sorrow draped shut await tomorrow
We can never catch up with quite enough sleep
And though we tend to forget our dreams at night
Our eyes shine forward from every morning's light
Through every lancing heatwave from the setting Sun
